{"id":80,"date":"2008-11-27T17:23:04","date_gmt":"2008-11-27T22:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paulschwake.com\/paulsblog\/?p=80"},"modified":"2010-03-31T09:41:13","modified_gmt":"2010-03-31T14:41:13","slug":"saving-gm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bluntforcememory.com\/blog\/?p=80","title":{"rendered":"Saving GM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Forget the bailout, GM.\u00a0 Here is what you should do (and should have done 15 years ago):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forget the game of being #1 in the world.\u00a0 Your focus needs to be on survival.\u00a0 Put the egos aside for now.<\/li>\n<li>Discontinue production of all cars except Volt, Corvette and Cadillacs (yes, that includes dumping Camaro and Solstice).<\/li>\n<li>As a result, discontinue Pontiac, Buick, Saturn and GMC.\u00a0 Keep Chevy for Volt, Corvette, SUVs and trucks.<\/li>\n<li>Sell off Hummer and Saab.<\/li>\n<li>Get moving on hybrid, electric and CNG technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Keep minimal SUV models and any that are kept need fuel efficiency improvements.\u00a0 Ideally, all should be hybrid or have cylinder-cutoff technology.<\/li>\n<li>Get rid of union work.\u00a0 As that will probably never happen, get rid of the paycheck-while-laid-off policy (what is it, they get 96% of their paycheck while laid off?!)<\/li>\n<li>Change your obviously flawed philosophy of\u00a0 \u201cthey will want\/buy what we build.\u201d\u00a0 Pay attention to trends and build what people want.<\/li>\n<li>Better quality control.\u00a0 It\u2019s gotten better, but you are lacking as always.\u00a0 You\u2019ve had three decades to admit that you have inferior products and work to resolve that.\u00a0 This is the number one reason you are in the position you are in now.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forget the bailout, GM.\u00a0 Here is what you should do (and should have done 15 years ago): Forget the game of being #1 in the world.\u00a0 Your focus needs to be on survival.\u00a0 Put the egos aside for now.
